Engineering and technology is the creative and systematic application of knowledge utilizing human and natural resources. Teams of engineering professionals translate advances in basic sciences into improved equipment, techniques, processes, and management skills that deliver products and services to consumers, enhancing their lives and communities.

Experience Hands-on Learning

Central Michigan University offers a well-rounded curriculum to prepare you for a career in engineering and technology. Undergraduate engineering and technology students pursue majors in mechnical or electrical engineering or choose among options in industrial and engineering technology, construction management, and industrial education.

Graduate students can pursue CMU's Master of Arts in Industrial Management Technology degree, which is designed to provide opportunities for initial or continued professional development for individuals in the occupational areas of industrial supervision, management, production, or technology.

The department has facilities for computer-aided engineering, automotive technology, plastics technology, solid mechanics, thermal/fluid dynamics, mechanical measurements, robotics, materials testing, metal fabrication, manufacturing systems, construction/wood technology, industrial education, electronics instrumentation and design, and engineering design graphics.

cardboard boat race

CMU's engineering majors complete design projects as part of the curriculum. One example is the annual cardboard boat race for freshman engineering students, which was named one of the "101 Things You Gotta Do Before You Graduate" by Sports Illustrated on Campus.
